Optimal Live Talk: Families Needs, Recommendations & Resources During the Opioid Crisis

Dr. Andrew Tatarsky and Mary Kay Villaverde of Families For Sensible Drug Policy (FSDP) discuss the impact of the opioid and overdose crisis on families, their needs and family’s perspectives on how to help them and their loved ones. They explore the limitations of the disease model/abstinence-only approach to treatment and the need for an expanded psychobiosocial model of addiction and a harm reduction informed continuum of care as keys to solving this crisis. Mary Kay shared some of her own wisdom about these questions gleaned from her personal experience as a formed problematic drug user, a mom of a son lost to a fatal drug overdose and a daughter thriving as a harm reduction worker and her talks with hundreds of families she is in touch with through her work with FSDP.
